With about 2.5 decades of transformative leadership in the Mining and Metals sector, deep technical expertise in “Ore-to-metal development” and a proven track record in multibillion-dollar business development mergers and acquisitions, Rama currently heads the mining portfolio of the group. His strength includes optimizing asset portfolios, greenfield/brownfield project development, operational excellence, and delivering sustainable growth. Tenured in major corporates like ArcelorMittal (15 years), Chowgule and Fomento, he has hands-on exposure to ferrous/non-ferrous metals & minerals, industrial and energy minerals. Throughout his career, he has led Strategic M&A Leadership, spearheaded the acquisition of integrated steel plants and associated assets (ports, pipelines, power plants, downstream/upstream facilities) worth $10+ billion, enhancing vertical integration and operational synergy. His experience extends to end-to-end asset development, having managed the full lifecycle of greenfield mineral deposits, from exploration to production, including material handling systems, rail/road/pipeline networks, and beneficiation and pellet plants. He has also spent years in evaluating and reporting mineral resources in compliance with global standards like JORC, CRIRSCO, NI 43-101, and SK-1300, to ensure regulatory compliance and foster investor confidence. His leadership extends beyond technical excellence. He has built and mentored cross-functional teams of 1,000+ professionals, aligning operational execution with strategic goals and fostering a culture of collaboration and accountability. With global exposure across Asia, Africa, and the Americas, he has effectively managed complex, multi-national projects and developed partnerships to secure licenses, offtake agreements, and social licenses to operate. Their expertise in navigating environmental, social, and governance (ESG) compliance has contributed to the sustainable development of large-scale mining projects. His educational credentials include a Bachelor Degree in Mining Engineering from University College of Engineering, Andhra Pradesh, India; First Class Mines Manager Certificate of Competency under Indian Mine Code; Qualified / Competent Person for certification of Mineral Resource & Reserves, Mining Plans, FR, DPR, EIA&EMP, ISO and Safety Management Plans and Senior Management Program in Leadership from IIM Calcutta, India.
